U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliarist FSO-PE Jensen of Flotilla 3-9 along with Active Duty MK2 Salazar, MK2 Burkett and MK3 Waller of U.S. Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island set out on a two month 2 County tour to promote Safe Swimming and Boating practices to the children of several Mobile and Baldwin County AL. elementary schools.
April was the kickoff of the two county tour, just prior to school being released for summer vacation.
The intent of the Silver and Gold side Coast Guard was to reach out to as many children as possible before they started their summer fun. The children were thought the significances of safe swimming practices, not just while on the open water but also while swimming in pools.
Using Oscar and the 25ft safe boat from station D.I. Kept the children’s attention along with how to put on a life jacket and proper use of the life ring.
The children had loads of fun learning and asking questions. But the biggest hit was Oscar.
Bravo Zulu to Station Dauphin Island for making the tour a complete success.
